Madonna And Guy Ritchie Resolve Custody Dispute Over Teen Son
NEW YORK — Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie have resolved a months-long trans-Atlantic custody dispute over where their teenage son should live.
Family Court spokesman Lucian Chalfen confirmed on Wednesday that the singer and the film director reached a settlement. He didn't release any details.
News of the settlement came just hours before another hearing on the matter was to take place Wednesday.
A lawyer for Madonna, 58, declined to comment. An attorney for Ritchie, 47, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment. The two were married in 2000 and divorced in 2008.
The court-appointed lawyer representing 16-year-old Rocco Ritchie also didn't return a message seeking comment.
In March Rocco's lawyer told a state judge the dispute over where he would live was causing her client stress.
A judge had previously ruled that Rocco should return to his mother's custody after he left her worldwide tour to live with Ritchie in London. She went to court to force his return.
The judge, Deborah Kaplan, urged the couple to reach an agreement on their own. Meanwhile, a judge in London halted court proceedings there, allowing for the dispute to settled in New York.
